Mission accomplished! Learn about our newest Aquaponics Farm in Kenya, Africa.
Mission Accomplished!
We're excited to announce the completion of our newest aquaponics farm in Kenya, Africa. The farm was built for Empowering Lives International (ELI), an organization that does extensive work in impoverished areas of Eastern Africa. As we've seen in so many other parts of the world, impoverishment can be a breeding ground for child trafficking. Today, more than 20,000 children are trafficked in Kenya each year.
This newly built farm will be utilized to support ELI’s two children’s homes for orphans, and will be a valuable resource for their two vocational training centers. We're thankful we can support ELI as they rescue kids and empower thousands of people.
More great news from Kenya
While in Kenya, our farm team had the opportunity to travel to Edloret to visit the farm we built for Open Arms Village last November. We're pleased to report that the farm is running strong. Intense rains and cooler temperatures at 7,000 feet have proven to be challenging for our aquaponics system, but the local farm mangers are continuing to discover ways to create greater efficiency, and it is working! They've harvested hundreds of Tilapia, and through recent vegetable sales, have completely covered their operating costs for the first year; in addition, they still have money to use for their feeding programs in the slums. It is immensely gratifying to witness Open Arms Village care for, and respect, their farm as a sustainable resource that has helped them take one more step towards self-sufficiency.
What a privilege it is to make a lasting difference in the lives of all these children. Thank you for all of your support. Without your contributions, none of this would be possible.
