Great News From Fly Fishing Collaborative!
Fly Fishing Collaborative (FFC) is committed to the mission of preventing children from being treated unjustly and being sold as a “trafficked resource.” Based on your support, FFC has made a remarkable difference in the lives of thousands of children globally, providing them sustainable food systems and helping caregivers ensure they are not trafficked. The need is great and FFC’s work continues, so we may serve the thousands of other children waiting for help.
Right now, FFC construction managers Jason and Brenda, and a great team of volunteers, are continuing to make strides in Eldoret, Kenya, where hundreds of orphaned children need a sustainable food source. Working in collaboration with local community members, they are about to complete FFC’s sixth environmentally safe aquaponics fish farm for Open Arms International, a local orphanage. In just a matter of days, the build will be complete and will begin producing the first cycle of fish and vegetables. The annual harvest of these resources will help to feed over 100 onsite orphans and will supplement a daily food program for hundreds of children that reside in the surrounding slums.
To finalizing the build of this large aquaponics farm the team is completing support beam welds, raising the greenhouse roof, and planting vegetable seeds in the new grow beds. Next week the team, and the orphanage’s newly trained farm managers, will fill the water tanks with hundreds of tilapia fish. These fish, as you may know, boost the system with nutrient rich substance that fertilize the vegetable plants and allow them to grow and produce at exceptional rates. The tilapia fish and the vegetables will be harvested incrementally for years and years to come.
We can’t think of more deserving recipients of this protein rich food system, than the hundreds of beautiful Kenyan kids in Eldoret who will be served by the farm’s production. What a great honor it is to give them such a lasting gift... something so simple, yet so vital to changing the course of their lives forever. Thank you for your support and your gifts that provided to these young children!
Fly Fishing Collaborative Expands!
With FFC’s continued growth, our leadership is expanding to better serve the fly fishing community and our event participation. So with excitement, FFC is announcing that the board of directors has initiated a new Ambassador Program. This program will be focused on sharing leadership responsibilities with individuals, who share FFC’s passion and have been dedicated volunteers helping to grow involvement with collaborators everywhere. The first six ambassadors have been selected and they are individuals who continuously represent the values of FFC, the passion and the outreach ability share with other outstanding men and women who want to join FFC. We will be announcing each ambassador individually over the next several newsletters and as they’re announced, we invite you to reach out to them and to get to know them personally.
To start, FFC is pleased to have Bryan Crumpler as our Alabama based Ambassador and we appreciate the opportunity to share a little more about Bryan:
Bryan lives in the steelhead deprived South East, but he makes due with great friends, his wonderful wife and a 2.5 year old wild child / steelhead junkie in training! Bryan is privileged to be an Ambassador for Fly Fishing Collaborative as he assists in encouraging shops and anglers to collaborate and even lends media support. Bryan is also the owner and editor of Revive Journal, an online quarterly publication focused on writing about and photographing the fly fishing lifestyle.
So why FFC?
“Being a part of FFC is the realization of a goal that I didn't know I had or couldn't exactly put my finger on until now. Living a life that is constantly busy can lead to distractions and a feeling of futility, even while being too busy to sleep sometimes! Bucky has been such an inspiring friend and even a mentor to me and seeing God work through him and with him along with other FFC founders and ambassadors has inspired me to try and find a purpose that is deeper than the life of distraction that we can so easily weave for ourselves. Watching FFC build bridges to others while serving those most in need is a testament to the vision and mission of FFC and is, in my opinion, exactly how we are called to reach others, lead others, and serve others. Being involved with FFC is a new chapter of purpose and excitement not only for me but also for my family” –Bryan Crumpler
