Time for a good news story!

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of our Aquaponic Farm in Gales Point, Belize! This successful build fulfills Phase Two of our multiphase project for the village.

Designed to support the needs of an entire community, Aquaponic Farm in Gales Point boasts our most intricate build to date. At the center of this build is an aquaculture center which is already growing 400 fish and greenhouse expected to yield 400-600 heads of lettuce per week! The potential for this Farm to become a sustainable income source for the community is outstanding. And as an extra benefit, the rich byproduct produced within the aquaculture center will be recycled and used to fertilize a soil farm. For the village, this soil farm serves as a food pantry for those in the village who need it most.

We’re celebrating success!

The completed FFC Aquaponics Farm is now fully owned by the community of Gales Point and will remain under the collective supervision of the Gales Point Village Council.

Day-to-day management will be carried out by a young man from the village named Camron Tillett. Cameron has the agricultural experience needed to guide this Farm forward and will be mentored in ongoing Aquaponic Farm management by our team here at the Fly Fishing Collaborative.

During the build of the Farm in Gales Point, our mantra was quickly established. Hearts and Hands.

We were blown away by the community’s active response of people (so many eager hearts and willing hands) that came out to work alongside us each day. This particular Farm was a massive undertaking, but with the help of many… completion, success, and joy were the results. Sometimes it really does take a village.

In addition to your support through participating in our events, purchasing FFC products, and generously giving we’d like to recognize a few people who physically made this build possible.

Thank you, Alyson Wells (FFC’s Farm Director and consultant), Phil Reasons (mentor and coach in Aquaponic Farm development), and all of the FFC team members and Gales Point villagers who came out and refused to quit until the job was complete. Each one of you is a true embodiment of what it means to sacrifice the self for the good of others.

If you’re reading this, we think it’s safe to say you care about helping people who need it the most. The effects of your generosity and support are worldwide and long-lasting. Your love and support continue to fuel us for this incredible work.

Thank you.
