Belize Farm Report

The Gales Point farm has been the “talk of the town” and demand for fresh vegetables from the newly built aquaponic farm is spreading fast throughout coastal Belize. To our surprise, 1/4 of the originally stocked tilapia have already been sold, proving the demand for fish will create an additional revenue stream for the farm and village. Our team has been working closely with Camron, the village farm manager, to increase harvest yields and enhance consistency to meet the growing demand for both fish and produce. This farm is well on its way to creating sustainable jobs for this community and we are very excited to report that in 3 months this farm will be fully self-sustaining.
 

Volunteer Trip Opportunities

Our team just wrapped up hosting a group of supporters in Gales Point, Belize. Hosted trips to Belize are an excellent way for FFC supporters to see firsthand what an FFC aquaponic program looks like while also supporting the livelihood of villagers by participating in tourist activities like manatee watching, fishing, drumming, and basket weaving.

East Africa & Beyond

We'll be traveling to Uganda this July! The purpose of this trip is to carry out a site visit for a prospective farm build and establish the foundational relationship between FFC and the partnering organizations. We'll lay the groundwork for a successful aquaponic farm during this time by determining the location and identifying goals and strategies to inform the farm design process. We'll also travel with the Uganda farm team to Kenya to visit the very successfully operating 2017 FFC aquaponic farm built for Empowering Lives International. We're so excited to offer a higher level of support through the connection of these two operations, while beginning farm manager training before the new build begins!
